Deceased man identified after 17 years

The man whose body was found floating along the shore of Fighting Island in LaSalle has been identified after almost two decades.

LaSalle police recovered the body on August 15, 2008. Police made several attempts to identify the man but all efforts were unsuccessful.

In 2011, police developed a DNA profile of the deceased man and uploaded it into the Canadian Human Remains Index.

Earlier this year, LaSalle Police received authorization to enter the profile into the U.S. DNA database.

On August 14, 2025, the RCMP's Forensic Science Identification Service positively identified the man.

His next of kin have been notified.

Investigators determined there was no signs of foul play.

LaSalle police did not release the man's name.
