A prime location in downtown Windsor is now the new home of a new state-of-the-art facility from the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario.
The YMCA celebrated its partnership with the University of Windsor on Monday with the opening of the new Learning and Career Centre, at Ouellette Avenue and University.
"At the Y, we believe in the power of belonging and the promise of potential," said YMCA of Southwestern Ontario CEO Andrew Lockie. "This new space is more than just a building, it’s a beacon of hope and opportunity. Our initiative with the University of Windsor has allowed us to create a hub for education, community connections, and local impact. Here, children, youth, and families can access the support they need to flourish and build brighter futures. This partnership is a testament to our shared commitment to Windsor’s future."
According to the Y's official website, the Learning and Career Centre provides settlement services for newcomers, along with English classes and career counselling. The centre has the capability to serve 300 visitors a day.
"The Y’s new Learning and Career Centre on the University of Windsor’s downtown campus will allow our two organizations to continue working together to create more opportunities for learning, wellness, and inclusive programming," said U of W President and Vice-Chancellor Doctor J.J. McMurtry.
The building was purchased by the University in 2022, and it was previously the headquarters of the Windsor Star. It sits on the site of the former Palace Theatre.
Complete information about the Learning and Career Centre can be found on the YMCA's website.
