The Windsor Police Service and Mothers Against Drunk Driving are reminding residents in the region to drive sober this holiday season.
MADD is asking drivers to take a pledge to never drive impaired through Project Red Ribbon while the Windsor Police Service launches its 2025 Festive R.I.D.E. program.
R.I.D.E. stops will be set up in Windsor and Amherstburg throughout the holiday season.
"These checks are designed to identify impaired drivers and keep everyone on the road safe and provide a visible police presence that encourages responsible driving," said Windsor Police Chief Jason Crowley.
He said people should plan ahead for a safe ride home.
"You will be caught, you will be held accountable. We have many eyes out there from the community who are willing to call 911 when they think someone is impaired," said Crowley.
Last year, officers stopped 1,758 vehicles during the campaign and charged 26 drivers with impaired driving offences.
“We join the Windsor Police Service in reminding Windsorites that impaired driving is never worth it. It’s not worth losing your licence, paying fines and legal fees, or facing higher insurance – and that’s if you’re only caught. Most importantly, it’s not worth risking your life or the lives of others on the road,” added Chaouki Hamka, MADD Windsor & Essex County Community Leader.
On Friday, officers conducted R.I.D.E. stops in Windsor and Amherstburg. They checked 174 vehicles, administered two roadside tests, and issued one three-day driving suspension.
