WPS Crisis Response Team increases calls in 2025

A partnership between police and social workers recorded an increase in service calls last year.

The Crisis Response Team pairs Windsor police officers with social workers at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare (HDGH). Together, they answer calls, work to de-escalate trouble, and provide people in crisis with support.

According to a social media post shared on Friday, the Crisis Response Team responded to 4,210 calls for service in 2025, a 28 per cent increase from 2024.

The officer-social worker teams provide professional referrals to residents, often making a trip to the emergency department unnecessary and allowing officers to better respond to higher-priority emergencies.

Mental health professionals have been working closely with police since 2009 through a partnership with Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, but the current CRT model began in May 2024.
