The Municipality of Leamington will reconsider a decision to support the bid to host the 2027 Ontario Gymnatics Championship.
Councillors voted to support the bid during a council meeting on March 10. If the bid was successful, the ice would need to be removed from the Highbury Canco Arena in March 2027.
This could interfere with the Leamington Flyers' junior hockey season.
During the council meeting, councillors noted the Flyers did not have a Memorandum of Understanding signed for the use of the arena for the following year, despite attempts to meet with the team.
Now, the Leamington Flyers and the Municipality of Leamington have confirmed that they've met to discuss the future of junior hockey in the community.
Following the discussions, an MOU has been finalized and the Flyers will continue to play in Leamington.
A Notice of Reconsideration regarding the decision to support the bid to host the 2027 Ontario Gymnastics Championship will be considered at the next Council meeting on March 24, 2026.
