Nature Fresh Farms stands behind wetland restoration

When 300 square metres of wetland at Hillman Marsh are planted with native species this June, Nature Fresh Farms will be there to help.

Species to be planted this year include Broadleaf Cattail, Blue Flag Iris, Green-headed Coneflower, and Cardinal Flower. Team members from Nature Fresh Farms will plant those during a Day of Action.

Over the past three years, the Hillman Marsh Restoration project has embarked on a massive undertaking to restore wetlands. Eventually, a high-crested barrier will be created to protect the marsh and provide habitat for native species. The barrier and vegetation will improve the marsh's resilience against storms, erosion, and climate change.

"This wetland planting will help stabilize the marsh shoreline while improving its habitat features and ecological functioning," said Director of Conservation Services at the Essex Regional Conservation Authority, Kevin Money.
