Yellow heat warning in effect for Windsor area

Windsor has been issued its first heat warning of 2026.

Environment Canada (EC) issued the alert for Monday afternoon, and it is expected to continue through to Tuesday night.

According to the yellow warning, Windsor area is expected to see daytime highs of 30 to 32 degrees, with humidex values of 36 to 38, and overnight lows near 20 degrees.

These high temperatures can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. If you or someone you're caring for has a high body temperature, is unconscious, confused, or has stopped sweating, EC advises calling 9-1-1 immediately.

To stay safe in the heat, EC reminds people to:

  • Drink water often and before you feel thirsty to replace fluids.

  • Close blinds or shades and open windows if the outside is cooler than inside.

  • Turn on the air conditioning, use a fan, or move to a cooler area of your living space. If your living space is hot, move to a cool public space such as a cooling centre, community centre, library, or shaded park.

  • Plan and schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day.

  • Limit direct exposure to the sun and heat.

  • Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat.

  • Never leave people, especially children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.

EC also advised people to to monitor alerts and forecasts.
