Catholic board signs MOU with four settlement service organizations at St. Michael's

Four settlement agencies will co-locate offices at St. Michael's Adult Catholic High School to better serve students.

The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County, the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc., and Centre communautaire francophone Windsor-Essex-Kent signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board to become a part of a community hub.

St. Michael's Adult Catholic High School has around 1,500 students annually. About 70 per cent of those are enrolled in English as a Second Language programming.

"The average student to get here might be two buses, could be an hour and a half trip but now that they can get the services they need for Ontario Works or references or job opportunities. Now it's all in a one stop shop," said Douglas Sadler, principal at St. Michael's Adult Catholic High School.

Rose Anguiano Hurst, Executive Director at Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc., believes the community hub will increase access for the people who need it the most.

"We do our outreach the best we can but to be here in a hub well known like St. Michaels, in collaboration with the other partners here, it's going to be a game changer for our organization," said Anguiano Hurst.

The new offices will be operational by mid-September.
