The Windsor Express has offered some elementary school students a chance to see the skilled trades in action.
The BSL club is sponsoring the Trades on Tour Camps for kids aged 11 to 14 later this month.
The day camps, which consist of two five-day sessions, offer young people interested in future trade careers an opportunity to see how they work. The camps are complete with guided, supervised tours of area manufacturers, hands-on activities, guest speakers, and Q&A sessions.
Among the groups participating are Unifor Local 444, the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners of America Local 494, LiUNA! 625, the Spencer Butcher Group, and others.
Boys and girls are invited to the first session, which runs from July 20 to July 24.
The second session is for girls, and it runs from July 27 to July 31.
Each day runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the drop-off and pick-up site being the Spencer Butcher Group headquarters located at 2755 Lauzon Parkway in Windsor.
The cost is $230 per child, with lunch and transportation to each facility included. At the end of the session, each participant will receive a gift bag of swag and a ticket voucher for a future Windsor Express game.
Participants are asked to bring a water bottle, nut-free snacks, and be sure to wear long pants and closed-toed shoes.
