UPDATE: Search for missing 11-year-old shifts to recovery

The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for an 11-year-old girl who went missing while boating on Thursday.

Coast Guard Sector Detroit was notified around 11 a.m. on Thursday that its partner agencies were investigating an incident related to the missing girl.

Sector Detroit activated Station Marblehead to the scene, where they found the vessel, but not the child.

An Air Station Detroit MH-60 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched to assist in the search, but after exhausting its resources, including the crew reaching its fatigue limit, had to call it off overnight.

They started searching again at first light on Friday morning, but it was suspended just before 9 a.m.

WTOL-TV in Toledo, Ohio, has reported that the search teams were no longer expecting a rescue. The station has also reported that it was the discovery of the body of a 38-year-old man off a marina in Curtice that prompted the lake search.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Jerusalem Fire Department, and the Toledo Fire Department are assisting in the search.

Anyone with information is asked to immediately contact the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit at 833-388-8724.
