Gordie Howe Bridge to open to pedestrians and cyclists in August

Cyclists and pedestrians can start crossing the Gordie Howe International Bridge on August 5, 2026.

The Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority announced the opening day for the multi-use trail through its social media on Wednesday.

The multi-use path will be toll-free and includes one lane that will accommodate two-way pedestrian and cyclist traffic.

The U.S. and Canadian ports of entry will have separate processing facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

The bridge opens for vehicular traffic on July 27, 2026.

The six-lane cable-stayed bridge extends approximately 2.5 kilometres.

The $6.4 billion project was originally set to open in the fall of 2024, but was delayed several times.
