The next time you visit St. Clair College Centre for the Arts keep an eye out for the Rotary Peace Pole.
Rotary District 6400 dedicated the peace pole Friday afternoon. With the words "May Peace Prevail on Earth" printed in four languages, including English, French, Arabic and Mandarin, on the pole, it is meant to inspire peace on Earth.
"A Peace Pole is a fabulous symbol that really announces that peace is important and it prevails on the Earth if we all rally around that concept of doing things that encourage the lack of conflict and of people working more closely together," said Kim Spirou, District Governor for Rotary Super District 6400.
The new peace pole is one of over 10,000 peace poles located throughout the world. Multiple local elementary schools also have peace poles on site.
"The peace pole is a recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of an entire human family and it stand vigil in different places around the world as a reminder that we all inspire peace," said Spirou.
While the lobby of St. Clair Centre for the Arts is the home of the Peace Pole, it is actually mobile and can be moved to be featured at different events or gatherings held at the college.
"We have such a diverse amount of programs down here with a diverse group of students. It's fantastic for them all to pass by this Peace Pole and have that understanding of how diverse our community is, how diverse our college is and it's such a great relationship to have with the rotary," said Joe D'Angela, Senior Director of the Foundation, Alumni and the St. Clair College Centre for the Arts.
