Suspected tornado hits Windsor during Thursday storm (GALLERY)

For the second day in a row, Windsor residents were picking up the pieces after an angry Mother Nature blew through town.

A line of severe thunderstorms moved into Windsor-Essex Thursday afternoon, dumping heavy rain and unleashing winds that were as high as 120 kilometres per hour. It left behind additional downed trees, damaged property, and traffic lights bent out of place.

A tornado is expected to have caused serious damage in the area near the Windsor riverfront from Ford City to Riverside. The Northern Tornadoes Project is expected to send a crew to investigate that possibility, along with another suspected tornado in Amherstburg.

A home on Riverside Drive East at Buckingham was seriously damaged. Windsor police had closed Riverside Drive between Pillette Road and Thompson Boulevard. The drive has reopened, though Buckingham Drive is closed between Riverside Drive and Wyandotte Street East "until further notice".

Meanwhile, Windsor Fire and Rescue reported no injuries related to the storm, and that crews are also out servicing calls.

Fire officials have urged anyone reporting a downed tree or property damage that does not involve someone being injured to use 311. Call 911 for emergencies.

EnWin reported 2,200 customers in the City of Windsor without power at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
