Windsor's battery plant hits 10M cells created

Windsor's electric-vehicle battery plant has hit another milestone.

NextStar Energy announced on Wednesday morning that it had reached the ten-million threshold in battery cell production.

Production began in November 2025.

"Canada has an opportunity to be a leader in the rapidly growing energy storage sector, and NextStar Energy is leading the charge," said NextStar Energy CEO Danies Lee. "Producing 10-million battery cells demonstrates that we have the people, the capability, and the vision to compete on a global scale. We are incredibly proud to create new advanced manufacturing opportunities for Canadian workers and to contribute to the long-term economic growth of our region."

The plant currently has 1,300 full-time employees, with the company's goal of eventually ramping up production to a capacity of 2,500 workers.

The plant was awarded the Energy Storage Milestone Award from Energy Storage Canada, for the creation of the facility unique to Canada.
