Jr. C Final Sees Goalfest

The Essex 73's take Game 1 of the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey Championship series with a 9-6 win over the Amherstburg Admirals.

Essex 73's forward Matthew Hebert had two goals, including the game winner in the third period. "Our power play was excellent tonight, we worked a lot on it and it really paid off tonight," he says. "Our breakout was good, but we got trapped in our zone a lot. Our defensive game needs some work."

Admirals captain Luke Gangnon says his team had a good period sandwiched between two bad ones. "We came out pretty solid in the second period; we had our feet moving a lot," says Gangnon. "In the first period [we] came out weak and in the third period, the same thing, came out a little bit flat-footed."

The Admirals host the 73's at the Libro Centre in Amherstburg Wednesday night for Game 2. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm.
