Leamington Hosts OBA Championships

Leamington public works crews are working to get baseball diamonds cleaned up after last night's storm, as the town prepares to host three provincial championship tournaments.

"Some of the guys were down here around five in the morning pumping water," says Leamington Minor Baseball Association President Kevin Gale. "They're starting to rake them now and the wind is really helping out."

Gale says roughly 450 players and coaches will descend on the town over the weekend for the rookie, pee-wee and midget OBA championships. I includes players from ages eight to 17.

A total of 33 teams will take part in the three divisions, some from as far away as Vaughan, Burlington and Ajax.

Leamington has hosted provincial championship tournaments in the past, but rarely are three age divisions hosted in the same town.
