Trade brings Windsor native to the Spitfires

An OHL defenceman is coming home to Windsor.

The Windsor Spitfires picked up some depth on the blueline by acquiring Thanasi Marentette from the Peterborough Petes on Tuesday.

In return, Windsor is sending Peterborough a tenth-round pick in the 2030 OHL Priority Selection.

The 19-year-old Marentette is an imposing presence on the defence at 6', 220 pounds.

Peterborough drafted him in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.

Over the past three seasons, Marentette played 72 games for the Petes, with two assists, 93 penalty minutes, and an average minus-6 in the plus-minus. He appeared in two games this season for Peterborough with two penalty minutes.

The Spits next hit the ice on Thursday evening at Sault Ste. Marie.
