Demand for Canadian agriculture has grown globally.
The Canadian Agricultural Outlook, released Friday, touched on economic growth around the world.
Economies with large population bases, rapid urbanization and rising incomes drive demand for primary agricultural products; meat, dairy and feed as well as processed food products. While growth in non-food demand from bio-fuels may be less than what it was in the past ten years. That's because mandates are being met and expansion depends on economic conditions.
Economies in Brazil, Russia, India and China are softening after huge increases in 2006-2009. That means maintaining and growing access to new and emerging markets will be important for Canada's agriculture competitiveness.
While Canadian producers have reaped the benefits of growth, higher prices are creating incentives for competitors to enter the global market.
