Ontario Trade Mission To China

A Bluevale farmer is helping with a trade mission to China.

Amy Cronin is the Agri-Food Growth Steering Committee Co-chair.  As part of the committee's focus on growth, a trade mission will go to Canada's second largest trading partner.  China imported $832 million worth of agri-food products in 2014.

"Developing new export markets and building Ontario’s brand globally is critical to industry growth. This trade mission, along with the work being done by the Growth Steering Committee, will help Ontario’s agri-food sector create new jobs and build on its already substantial contribution to the provincial economy," says Cronin, Agri-Food Growth Steering Committee Co-chair, Ontario Pork Chair, and hog farm operator.

Ontario's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Jeff Leal, and Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade, Michael Chan, will lead the mission in April.

The goal of the trade mission to China is to build on the success of Ontario's agri-food exporters.  The visit will include stops to Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Shouguang and Hong Kong.

"Ontario’s agri-food sector has great potential. This trade mission will provide an excellent opportunity to build new partnerships and promote increased trade between Ontario and China, leading to more jobs and growth for our agri-food sector," says Leal.

The last Ontario agri-food trade mission to China took place in January 2013.
