Hope Likes Infrastructure Chances

Chatham-Kent's mayor likes the sound of the new Liberal Government on issues like infrastructure, foreign direct investment , and other issues, and he will be eager to promote the needs of the municipality.

But Hope says it is important to let newly elected officials settle into their roles.

"Once they establish their cabinet then we start to work on those cabinet members on what we face and educate them," he says. "I don't anticipate anything happening extremely quickly."

Hope says he is not even disappointed to have the local MPs now sitting on the opposition side of the House of Commons.

"It plays out quite well, sometimes when you are a government member you've got to sing by the hymn book that is played to you," he says. "We've had foreign direct investment that had been on our doorstep, we needed federal support, it came from top down saying there was no money, so now that we have our federal members sitting opposite we may be able to get their voice to be amplified a little bit more."

He also says he will be active with groups like AMO and the Southwestern Ontario Mayors groups to seek attention for the area.
