Public Trail For Another CK School (Gallery)

A local family feels the partnership between Chatham-Kent and the Lambton-Kent District School Board is on the right track.

Or in this case, the right trail.

The second granulated trail on board property, and overseen by the municipality, is now open at Harwich Raleigh Public School in Blenheim.

Dianne Flook, who taught at the school in the 80's, explains her family has been helping with the upkeep of the property for a long time.

"The trees and grass needed to be trimmed, so our family has been doing that for 25 years. But then we built the trails through it with the school leading that, and our family has continued taking care of it," she says.

Not surprisingly then, the space has been dubbed the "Flook Trail."

Flook adds the partnership between the two entities, which started with another trail behind Tecumseh Public School in Chatham, has been wonderful.

As CK Manager of Parks Jeff Bray explains, this 1.7 km public trail is a bit different, with this property also containing a scenic woodlot.

"Most schools would kill to have that woodlot," says Bray. "Just for classroom programming, it's beautiful back there. This trail, building upon what the Flooks did, has been cleared a bit and become just a beautiful amenity."

Staff add they're currently setting up their work program with the CK Trails Council for 2016, with no future sites chosen yet.
