Nurses Approach Strike Position

The clock is ticking for local public health units as nurses approach a legal strike position.

With talks falling out in September, both the ONA and employers are now speaking through mediation.

Bargaining Unit President Charlene Stinson says the many Chatham-Kent Public Health nurses want to avoid going into a strike.

"We have 42 nurses that work out of the WISH Centre, and then we have contract nurses that help out with school immunization clinics... we're asking for respect and fairness from the employer," she says.

Stinson adds public health nurses can enter a legal strike position as of November 2. Nurses have been without a contract since the end of 2013.
