The Ridgetown Campus of the University of Guelph will be swarming with farmers and agricultural experts for the next two days discussing research at the South West Ag Conference.
Agronomist Peter Johnson who helped organize the event says while much of it is aimed at mainstream agriculture even topics like nitrogen application on corn has wider effect.
"The reason we have a dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico is because of too much nitrogen coming off agricultural land and going down the Mississippi, we don't want to get in that situation here," he says. "We have people talking about how to assess your hydro bill, your MPAC assessment, we have people talking about conservation in terms of wet-lands and wild life and pollinator habitat."
Johnson says there will also be sessions on energy use and conservation, growing trees for profit and soil organic matter.
The conference is fully booked for both days.
