Local corn and wheat farmers are being courted by a dextrose plant in Sarnia.
Andrew Richard represents the company called Comet and says the dextrose from corn and wheat stocks is used in just about everything or soon will be.
Richard says the company plans to grow its food product clientele and tap into developing markets including those to eventually replace plastic bottles.
He says "the market is huge and the plant needs 55-thousand acres to be viable."
If everything goes well, the $70-million plant "should be operational late in 2018," says Richard.
He says future expansion is possible at the Sarnia site and more plants could be in the cards as the market grows.
