The free trees that are being handed out by the Lower Thames Conservation Authority have all been claimed.
Chatham-Kent residents were asked to register online through the LTVCA's website, but as of 12:30pm Friday, the LTVCA said the program was already filled up.
"This year we only have 500 trees to give out due to funding constraints," says Environmental Project Coordinator Greg Van Every.
Last year, the conservation authority gave away 1,000 trees.
"We only had about 1,000 registrants last year, but this year I'm worried that there might be another thousand registrants and we only have 500," says Van Every. "So it's a bit of a challenge that way, but we're trying to stay positive and do something good for the community."
There are three species of trees available this year, including Ironwood, Sugar Maple, and Kentucky Maple. Selection for the successful applicants will be first come first serve.
The trees, which are up to to 2 m tall, will be available for pick up on April 15. Residents who qualify for a free tree will receive an email with more details closer to that day.
