Viewers outside of Toronto will no longer need cable or satellite TV to tune into TVO.
Ontario's public broadcaster will continue to transmit free broadcast signals to eight communities, including Chatham, London and Windsor.
The decision was reversed less than a month after the broadcaster announced it was only going to maintain its over-the-air transmitter in Toronto, in an effort to save $1-million annually.
In a news release on Friday, TVO officials said the provincial government has agreed to flow an additional $1-million to ensure it can continue to operate the transmitters.
“We heard that Ontarians value TVO’s dynamic educational programming," said Education Minister Mitzie Hunter. "Our government is pleased to take this step to ensure that TVO will continue to be accessible over-the-air in these communities."
