The campground at Rondeau Provincial Park is closed until further notice because of flooding concerns.
At this point, park officials anticipate the campground will be fully open to the public again on May 25.
"Due to recent heavy spring rain resulting in localized flooding, Rondeau Provincial Park has temporarily closed all campsites until further notice. Public safety is our main priority," states a media release from Ontario Parks. "Staff are monitoring conditions daily and we will reopen the campground as soon as it’s safe to do so."
The park remains open for day use from 8am until 10pm.
"By closing areas of the park, Ontario Parks’ staff are trying to limit the impacts to the environment while the soil is saturated," the media release says. "Even walking in some areas may lead to soil compaction and rutting that would be difficult to repair after the campsites dry out."
Ontario Parks says all guests with campsite reservations are being contacted and offered a full refund or the option to change their reservation with no penalty.
Once the rain subsides, park staff will work on gradually opening campsites.
