Gera Poddubnyi of the Erie Otters finished off the Windsor Spitfires in a shootout.
It was his goal that sealed a 4-3 win over the Spits at the Erie Insurance Arena Sunday. Windsor did get a point, but remains in third place in the OHL West Division with 11 points total on the season.
The Otters opened the scoring when the Spitfires somehow knocked the puck into their own goal at 1:47 of the first frame. Erie's Petr Cajka was credited with the goal. Windsor pulled even before the end of the period when Will Cuylle scored his third goal of the season. Windsor's defence held the Otters to just two shots in the first period.
Erie took the lead at 4:26 in the middle period when Joseph Mack scored, but the Spits evened the score once more on a Luke Kutkevicius goal, made on the power play. The score was 2-2 after 40 minutes of action.
Windsor took its only lead of the game in the third frame on a Kyle McDonald goal at 7:40, but Erie's Danial Singer tied the game again three minutes later when he scored on the power play.
Overtime came and went without a winner, and Windsor outshot Erie 3-1. Poddubnyi's shot was the second successful one in the shootout for the Otters, compared to one for Windsor.
Michael DiPietro had 22 saves in the loss for the Spitfires. Daniel Murphy stopped 23 shots for the Otters.
Windsor next hosts Sault Ste. Marie Thursday night at the WFCU Centre.
