Trucker who killed mother and son sentenced to jail time

A Brampton truck driver who pleaded guilty to charges in connection with a crash that killed an Amherstburg woman and her teenage son will spend time behind bars.

Manjit Parmar was at the Chatham courthouse Monday for a sentencing hearing. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail and will have to serve an 869-day driving ban once his sentence is finished. Parmar was also ordered to submit his DNA to the identification database.

Parmar pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving causing death and three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm back in July.

The charges were in connection with a deadly crash on Highway 401, which occurred in July 2017. Lacie Brundritt, 42, and her 14-year-old son Kyle Brundritt were pronounced dead at the scene. There were two other people in the vehicle who survived the crash, Kyle's 12-year-old brother Evan, and father Michael.

At a previous hearing, Michael said his life has been split into two periods, before and after the crash. However, he did offer forgiveness to Parmar.
