Local bands with dreams of sharing the stage with some legendary rockstars could get their chance to make that a reality this summer.
The upcoming Otter Creek Jam Fest in August is holding a band contest in hopes of finding opening acts for the inaugural festival.
Bands are encouraged to enter their information online. Once all the entries are submitted, members of the public will get to vote on which band they think should take the stage.
Four bands will be chosen for the paid gig. Festival co-producer Aaron Hall said it was important to give Chatham-Kent based bands the chance to showcase their talents.
"It was really important for us to include local acts and local musicians with the festival," he said. "We thought this was the best way to really give everyone an equal opportunity."
The winners will have the chance to be on the same bill as legendary Canadian musician Tom Cochrane or rock band Trooper.
The top bands will be given first, second, third and fourth place titles based on the number of votes they receive. The first place winner will have first pick at what day and time they want to perform during the festival. Each band will perform two 45-minute sets.
"It could be young bands, it could be veteran bands in the community that can sign up. As long as they have the information we need, we'll post them up as part of the poll and we'll let the fans decide who they want to see," said Hall.
