Fans of the Toronto Raptors will fill the streets of downtown Toronto on Monday, as the 2019 NBA champions hoist the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
The Raptors beat the Golden State Warriors in six games during the NBA Finals best-of-seven series. The historic win is a first in the franchise’s 24-year history.
To mark the occasion, Toronto Mayor John Tory has proclaimed June 17, 2019, as “We The North Day”. Tory’s proclamation cites the win as something that is shared not only by the team, its ownership and staff but also for fans.
“Today, on We The North Day, as we gather to celebrate the first NBA championship in Raptors’ history, I encourage everyone in our city to show our support, pride, love, and appreciation for this incredible team,” said Tory in the proclamation.
A victory parade for the Toronto Raptors is scheduled to start Monday morning at 10 a.m. from Exhibition Place and stop at Nathan Phillips Square for a celebration.
