There is a slight chance of flooding along the Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie shorelines over the Thanksgiving weekend, according to the local conservation authority.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority said with strong winds forecasted throughout the long weekend, shoreline damage, erosion and flooding may be possible along the Lake St. Clair shoreling Friday evening and into Saturday. As well, the area Lake Erie shoreline, including Erie Shore Drive, could see the same problems throughout the entire weekend.
Winds are expected to reach between 20-35 kilometres per hour or higher during the weekend. The winds could result in wave heights reach up to 1.5 metres Sunday night on Lake Erie.
"People should take extra caution and avoid the shoreline should conditions get rough," the conservation authority said in a news release. "The waves can be strong and the shoreline slippery. There could also be hazardous debris within the waves and water, which could be thrown onto the shore. Standing water can also present unseen hazards. Children and animals should be kept away from the water."
