Lambton College has stepped up in a big way to help Bluewater Health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Judith Morris said while they originally debated offering the use of the college's clinical space, it made more sense to send equipment to the Sarnia hospital site.
"So what we've done is we've transferred 30 beds, medical carts, tables and personal protective equipment including gloves and gowns and N-95 masks," said Morris.
She said some Lambton College students are also providing services at the hospital during the pandemic.
"They're doing the interviews at the doors to make sure people are coming in without any signs of COVID-19. Some of the individuals who approve the accrediting of our nurses are actually giving temporary licences to the students. Ultimately, they have to be accredited, but if they have a job right now and are needed then they're able to work in the field."
Morris said they're also trying to get personal support worker students into the community.
"The whole college system is working on a way to try to pull some of those personal support workers into the long-term care facilities that are in huge need."
Morris said Lambton College has also been asked by the federal government to assist with 3D printing.
"3D printing would print test tubes and different things that they might need for the testing centres."
Morris said a full list of the colleges equipment and skills, pertaining to the needs of the COVID-19 virus, has been sent to officials in Ottawa.
