Three arrested in connection to CK moving scam

Three individuals from Toronto are facing charges following an investigation into a moving scam in Chatham-Kent.

On three separate occasions between May and July 2022, Chatham-Kent police received complaints from residents advising that a moving company was possibly defrauding them.

According to police, in each incident, the citizen paid for their personal belongings to be moved from one location to another. As the items were en route, they each received a follow-up call from the movers allegedly advising them that more money was required or they would not receive their belongings.

The two company names used in the alleged fraud were AYC – All You can Move Movers and Canadian Principal Movers.

The suspects, ranging in age from 27 to 30, were located and arrested by Toronto Police Service.

All three were charged with:

-False pretence over $5,000

-Fraud over $5,000

-Theft over $5,000

-Possession of stolen property over $5,000

-Mischief over $5,000

-Conspiracy to commit false pretence

-Conspiracy to commit fraud

The individuals were all released with conditions and a future court date.

Anyone who believes they may have fallen victim to a similar scam involving a moving company is urged to contact Chatham-Kent police.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
