Police investigating fatal crash near Highgate

Two people have died following a single-vehicle collision near Highgate.

At around 12:20 a.m. on Monday, emergency crews responded to a serious crash on Teetzel Line between Kenesserie Road and Tower Road.

According to police, a 27-year-old Highgate man and a 25-year-old Ridgetown man were in a pickup truck travelling east, when the truck lost control and collided with a large tree. A nearby resident was the one to contact 9-1-1.

"Emergency crews located two deceased persons inside the vehicle. Through investigation, the occupants have been identified, with confirmation via DNA pending," police said in a release.

The Chatham-Kent police have extended their condolences to the family and friends of the two victims.
