Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a gun call in Blenheim.
Police said officers responded to the "weapons incident" at a home on Hannibal Street just after 7 a.m. on Friday and took him into custody without incident.
"Upon arrival, officers quickly assessed the situation and engaged in negotiations with a man at the residence to ensure a peaceful resolution," said CK police Public Information Officer Lynette Rosina in a statement issued Friday afternoon. "The officers effectively communicated with the man, ultimately taking him into custody."
The incident required the deployment of specialized units and resources, including The Critical Incident Response Team, Canine Unit, Criminal Investigation Branch, drones, and the Armoured Rescue Vehicle.
The investigation continues.
"We would like to thank the public and the media for your cooperation and support during the incident," added Rosina.
Police issued an alert just after 8:30 a.m. on Friday, urging the public to stay away from the area of Lumley Street, Hall Street, Sandys Street North and Hannibal Street in Blenheim for safety reasons due to an active investigation.
Police issued an update about an hour later, at 9:40 a.m., saying the situation had been resolved peacefully and the individual involved was safely taken into custody.
