A public meeting will be held in Tilbury to discuss some local and regional projects.
The Tilbury Area Action Team (TAAT) will host the event on Wednesday at Unifor building, where it plans to talk about the proposed Chatham-Kent Community Hub and how it could impact the area.
"We're concerned that if this project goes ahead, (there) won't be enough money to address other projects," said Kathy Cottingham, TAAT member.
The one project on top of mind is the unfinished demolition in downtown Tilbury. The area has been untouched since last November after it was determined the neighbouring buildings were at risk if work continued.
"We've been pretty proud of our downtown over the years and it is not acceptable to us to leave an unsafe situation not attended to," added Cottingham.
She also explained the area is a safety issue. People have to basically walk on the road to pass the building, with Cottingham claiming there have been a couple of instances in which people were nearly hit by vehicles.
"They really need to have better access, but the best access would be to have the mess cleaned up," she said.
Cottingham noted there are other concerns TAAT has with the community hub project such as people using its services instead of the others that are already available across the municipality.
Overall, Cottingham said the TAAT is against the project and wants to hear from people in Tilbury whether they feel the same.
The plan at the meeting is to get the public's opinion on whether TAAT should submit a request to speak at the Chatham-Kent council meeting scheduled for Oct. 21, 2024. They choose this meeting since they believe the community hub project is expected to be discussed. The agenda has not been released and CK News Today was unable to confirm with the municipality.
