People in Chatham-Kent who don't have a family doctor will soon have another way to see a physician.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) and Chatham-Kent EMS are bringing back the CK Seasonal Care Clinic.
It operates much like a walk-in clinic, helping those with mild symptoms such as a cough, rashes, eye infections, and ear aches. People needing prescription refills can also use the clinic.
People suffering from more severe symptoms should continue to use the CKHA's Emergency Department.
"During this time of year, we consistently see a surge in seasonal illness within the community. With this clinic as an option, we hope to make it easier for patients to get timely treatment while also reducing the load on CKHA’s Emergency Department," said Dr. Peter MacKinnon, a family physician with the CKHA.
The clinic operated for four months during the last winter and ended up helping over 1,500 people. While many didn't have a family doctor, the clinic also supported those who did but just couldn't see them in a timely manner.
"The clinic's proven benefits make it a vital consideration for enhancing community health services once again," added Pete Morassutti, Operations Manager of Mobile Integrated Health Programs with Chatham-Kent EMS.
It will be open starting December 10, 2024, outside of the CKHA's Emergency Department. It will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
People will need to visit the registration desk in the Emergency Department before they can use the clinic.
