Serious injuries after SUV, pickup truck crash near Thamesville

Chatham-Kent police are investigating a second serious crash over the weekend, this time near Thamesville.

CK police said they were called to the intersection of Selton Line and Victoria Road just after 9 p.m. Saturday after an SUV that was heading West on Selton Line collided with a pickup truck that was heading South on Victoria Road.

The 28-year-old Windsor man who was driving the SUV was not hurt and neither were the two passengers inside the SUV, but the 32-year-old Thamesville man who was driving the pickup truck was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Chatham-Kent police are still investigating the collision.

Anyone with information should contact Constable Brandon McKeen at brandonmc@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.

In the wake of two serious crashes in Chatham-Kent, police are issuing a warning to drivers who disregard road closure signs and drive around barricades at collision scenes.

Police said that type of "reckless behaviour" hampers emergency response efforts and puts the safety of the officers, the investigators, and the other first responders in jeopardy.

CK police didn't specify which scenes they saw this specific action took place, but noted that individuals chose to ignore clearly marked road closures "in recent incidents."

The drivers who were caught going around the signs also got a reminder that their actions were illegal as police handed out "multiple" provincial offence notices.
