A new program is being launched to help suspended students within the St. Clair Catholic District School Board (SCCDSB).
The school district and the Chatham-Kent YMCA are creating the "Back on Track" program, which will provide a supportive space where students in grades 7 to 12 can reflect on challenges, strengthen social skills, and develop strategies for moving forward.
Each student will develop a plan that aims to address the root causes of their suspension and help improve academic and personal skills.
"Life brings both highs and lows for all of us – and our students are no exception. Back on Track is proof of what we can accomplish when we work alongside community partners who share our commitment to every young person’s future. Together, we are creating opportunities for students to learn, grow, and find hope, even in difficult moments," said Lisa Demers, Director of Education for SCCDSB.
The funding for the program is coming from a grant from the Joyce Family Foundation.
“(The program) is a powerful example of what happens when charities, educators, and philanthropic partners come together to support youth,” added Andrew Lockie, the CEO of the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario.
"Back on Track" will be run out of the Chatham-Kent YMCA.
