CK martial artist wins two golds at Jiu-Jitsu World Championships

A Blenheim martial artist is back home after winning two gold medals at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championships in Thailand.

Rain Pfaff competed in the adult female +70 kg category, winning both the gi and no-gi divisions.

She's now won five gold medals during the last three World Championships. Last year's gi competition in Greece was the only competition she didn't win, though she did capture the bronze.

Pfaff told CK News Today she had no plans on repeating that third-place performance.

"I definitely put a lot of pressure on myself. It's got its pros for sure because it makes me work harder," she said.

More people outside of Chatham-Kent (CK) and Canada are starting to notice Pfaff's impressive resume. She said some of her biggest supporters are her fellow competitors.

"One girl from Saudi Arabia wanted to get a picture with me. She's like, 'You've won it three times.' She was a fan," she laughed.

Two other CK martial artists had qualified for the World Championship, but didn't compete. Thomas Armstrong and his daughter Isabelle didn't take part due to time constraints.

Next up on Pfaff's schedule is the World International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship in Las Vegas.

"I think that'll be my biggest competition to date," she said.

This competition is scheduled for December 11-13.
