The Gift returns to Chatham-Kent

One of Chatham-Kent's community traditions is back for the sixth time this Saturday.

The Gift, a local grassroots initiative, sees volunteers collect non-perishable food, hygiene items, new toys, and other essentials directly from the homes of donors.

Anyone donating needs to have any items out on their doorstep by noon on Saturday, November 22. They will then be collected and distributed to local families, agencies, and individuals who need an extra lift during the holiday season.

"The Gift shows the true heart of Chatham-Kent," said Sherry Carter, Chatham Community Captain, who has worked with struggling CK residents for decades. "When Chatham-Kent comes together with the Gift, I see how the event fills the needs more than I ever thought possible. Every can of food, every toy, every volunteer - when we each give a little, we create something extraordinary together. This day belongs to all of us."

Come Together CK volunteer Fannie Vavoulis described Chatham-Kent as a community that has a remarkable way of showing up for others.

"The Gift is a reminder that giving is powerful," she said, adding that every contribution helps to brighten someone's holiday season.

Organizers note that there are opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to volunteer for the event. People are needed to help paint signs, drive routes and pick up items, and sort donations once they've been collected.

Anyone who would like to volunteer can find more information and sign up here.
