CK seeks public input while updating water/wastewater vision

Public feedback is sought as the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (CK PUC) updates its Water and Wastewater Master Plan.

The study will review previous capital plans and identify additional capital upgrades needed to "sustainably" provide municipal water and wastewater services to approximately 39,000 water and 31,000 wastewater customers.

CK PUC said new study will also assess infrastructure requirements to accommodate future growth to the "estimated full build-out" beyond 2051, while continuing to improve servicing to existing residents, businesses and institutions.

The commission noted the water and wastewater servicing solutions will be designed to be financially, socially and environmentally sustainable, meeting Chatham-Kent’s potable water and sewage servicing needs for the long term.

"This study is being coordinated with other municipal planning initiatives, including the Chatham-Kent Official Plan Update, the Southwest Servicing Study, the Transportation Mobility Master Plan, and the Parks and Recreation Master Plan," CK PUC said in a statement.

Three public information sessions will be held to gather input from the public.

According to CK PUC, the public information sessions will be held in the spring, summer, and fall, but no dates have been released yet.

Public Notices will be issued throughout the course of the study to notify stakeholders and the public of the project status and the sessions, said CK PUC.

The commission noted the study should be complete in March 2027.

CK PUC said the final study report will be made available to the public for review and feedback once it's complete.
