RCMP looking for Chatham recruits who want to make a difference

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) will be holding a fitness assessment workshop in Chatham on Thursday night for those interested in a career with the Mounties.

The workshop to provide tips and techniques to help applicants start or improve their physical training for the police fitness assessment will be held at St. Clair College in Chatham on Thursday, beginning at 6 p.m.

RCMP recruiter Constable Shaad Azeez told CK News Today that applicants will have their cardio and strength tested, try the equipment, and speak with trainers during the two-hour workshop.

Azeez said they selected Chatham this time because they wanted to branch out to assess possible candidates outside of the usual recruiting areas.

"We put on the workshop so that you come out and test yourself and see if there's anywhere you can improve on and you can work towards that during your application process," said Constable Azeez.

Azeez said the RCMP offers over 150 specializations, adding that a career with the RCMP is full of opportunities for continued learning and growth.

"When you look at it big picture, career-wise, long-term planning, I think there's a lot of great opportunity and a lot of people would be interested to learn what the RCMP has to offer," Azeez noted.

Registration is required and must include name, phone number or email address, and date and location of the event.

Applicants are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the fitness assessment workshop and bring government-issued identification.

The federal government wants to hire 1,000 RCMP officers across the country to boost ranks.

An RCMP officer is well paid, and the job offers a strong pension and good benefits.

Applicants must be at least 19 years of age, and there is no maximum age limit to apply to the RCMP.
