The YMCA of Chatham-Kent is challenging local residents to prove just how strong they are.
The Y will host its third annual Push the Bus fundraiser this Saturday, June 6 from noon to 2 p.m. in the parking lot on Courthouse Lane in Chatham.
"You and four or five of your friends, or work colleagues, or whoever, come out and push a full-size school bus 80 metres," said Development Officer Art Stirling. "The team that does it the quickest obviously gets the bragging rights."
The goal is to raise $4,000 to help send kids to camp who otherwise might not be able to attend.
"We ask teams to either fundraise or donate as close to or $200 if they are able," said Stirling. "The magic number is $200 because that's what it roughly costs to send one child to summer camp for one week."
Stirling adds that Push the Bus is part of a bigger fundraising campaign.
"Right now, we’ve been in the middle of our Fill The Bus campaign to raise funds to help children go to summer camp who might not otherwise have that experience," said Stirling.
The YMCA will also host an Open House on June 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members and non-members are invited to stop in and learn more about the Y's programs, participate in some games, crafts, and activities, and enjoy a BBQ.
