Chatham-Kent (CK) police say a Chatham man is charged after he allegedly set fire to his seat belt in a police cruiser.
Officers responded to a home on Fourth Street in Chatham after a report of assault on Tuesday evening.
According to police, a 41-year-old man tried to enter a home while the owner tried to close the door. The accused then allegedly spat on the 34-year-old victim before leaving the area.
Police arrested the suspect, who they say acted aggressively toward officers.
While in the cruiser, the suspect allegedly took a lighter out of his pocket and set fire to his seatbelt, causing damage.
The man has been charged with assault, obstructing the public or a peace officer, mischief under $5,000, and assault of a peace officer.
He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
Intimate Partner Violence
A Blenheim man is facing four counts of assault after allegedly choking two women.
Early Wednesday morning, CK police responded to a home in Blenheim following a report of a dispute.
Officers report that a 37-year-old man choked a woman. To keep her from leaving, he also allegedly uttered threats.
The man is also accused of choking a second Blenheim woman.
He has been charged with two counts of assault, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, and uttering threats.
The suspect remains at the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, awaiting his bail hearing.
