York1 officially files applications for Dresden project

York1 has officially filed its applications with Ontario’s Environmental Registry for its proposed project in Dresden.

Four applications were submitted: one for a landfill, one for a waste transfer and processing site, one for air quality, and one for stormwater management.

York1 provided details about each project in their applications. According to the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the scope of the project remains very similar to the original applications submitted in 2024.

The municipality explained the time of operations for the landfill, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and what waste will be accepted, non-hazardous waste generated from residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional sources, are the only real changes.

Despite this, the municipality has retained a team of experts for a comprehensive technical review of the proposals.

This review will look into some of the major concerns with the project, including transportation and traffic impacts, groundwater and hydrogeology, landfill engineering and operations, surface water and stormwater management, natural environment impacts, noise, and air quality.

Once the review is finished, the municipality will make a formal submission to the province against the project.

The public has 45 days to comment on York1's applications. All comments can be submitted online or by mailing the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks through its Client Services and Permissions Branch.

The municipality is hoping to extend the deadline; however, it remains at 45 days at this time.
