A London secondary school teacher accused of professional misconduct involving four female and two male students is set to go before a disciplinary committee next month.
Spiro Grima, a music teacher with the Thames Valley District School Board, is accused of having an "inappropriate relationship" with a student that included signing her out of class, driving her home, taking her for coffee, and exchanging texts. He is also said to have kissed the girl on the cheek, according to a public hearing notice posted on the Ontario College of Teachers website.
The six-page notice also alleges that Grima hugged and kissed three other students on the cheek, kissed a male student on the forehead, and shared a blanket with a female student during a bus trip.
All of the alleged incidents are said to have happened between 1999 and 2015.
The two-day hearing, scheduled for April 23 and 24 at the Ontario College of Teachers’ Toronto office, will "decide whether the allegations are true and whether Spiro Grima is guilty of professional misconduct," according to the document.
Under the College of Teachers Act, those found guilty of professional misconduct could have their teaching license revoked or suspended up to 24 months, receive a written or verbal reprimand, or have conditions or limitations imposed on them.
Grima received his bachelor of education and bachelor of music from Western University in 1995. He is currently listed as being in "good standing" with the teachers' college.
