Carjacking, Shooting Suspect Faces More Charges

More charges have been laid against the 33-year-old London man accused of two carjackings and a shooting in Westmount after police discovered explosives inside his home.

Officers found the explosive device while searching the home of Haris Masic on April 7. Members of the police explosive disposal unit confirmed it was an explosive and removed it from the home before destroying it.

Masic is now charged with the following:

-makes or has in his possession or care and control any explosive substance with intent to endanger life or to cause serious damage to property -makes or has in his possession without lawful excuse an explosive substance.

Masic was arrested early last month and charged with dozens of offences including assault causing bodily harm and robbery with a weapon. Those charges stem from the February 10 attempted carjacking of a couple in the Westmount Shopping Centre parking lot and the March 29 shooting of a man and assault of a woman in the parking lot of a nearby park.

The February incident saw a young man and woman approached by a man who tried to steal their vehicle. The woman reported seeing a muzzle flash of a weapon being fired. Over a month later, a man was shot twice and a woman assaulted with a weapon in the parking lot of a park in the area of Viscount Rd. and Wonderland Rd. Both the man and woman were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

More charges were laid against him in mid-April after police searched his home and vehicle and seized three stolen firearms, ammunition, stolen jewellery, and electronic devices.

He now faces a total of 48 charges.

Masic is scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday in relation to the new charges against him.
