A 19-year-old London man allegedly caught doing more than double the speed limit in the north-end Monday morning has been charged with stunt driving.
London police clocked a vehicle travelling at 105 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Western Road, near Ambleside Drive just after 9 a.m.
The driver was stopped without incident. His licence has now been suspended and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will also have to appear in court on the stunt driving charge. If convicted, the man faces a $2,000 fine.
Travelling through the city at such a high rate of speed is "extremely dangerous," said Sergeant Sean Harding.
"People around you - pedestrians, other motorists, cyclists, vulnerable roadway users -how do they prepare for that? A vehicle is now travelling at double the legal limit. They are looking for vehicles travelling the limit and this one is coming at them twice as fast," said Harding. "It is a danger not only for the person driving that vehicle, but for any other roadway user."
Harding advises anyone hitting the road to plan ahead and slow down.
